REMSA Ambulance Response Time
REMSA has negotiated response time requirements in various parts of the County as part of their exclusive franchise agreement. The map shown on this page is the actual requirements map taken from the Franchise Agreement. We received our copy from the Washoe County District Health Department on June 9th, 2008.
From this map, you can see that most of us live in either the best efforts or 20 minute zones, and only those people who live in the main part of Reno and some of Sparks are within the 8 minute critical response time zone.
Jim Gubbels, from REMSA , requested that we add a note that says normally REMSA responds more quickly than the allowed maximum response times on this map. He cited data for a particular location within the "20 minute zone' where he said that their "average" response time was about 11.5 minutes. We also should note that National Fire Protection Association Standard 1710 requires the arrival of a paramedic in 8 minutes maximum for life threatening emergencies.
